Evaluation of the Linkages between Ecosystem Services and Land Use/Land Cover Changes in Matenchose Watershed, Rift Valley Basin, Ethiopia

The global ecosystem services that are essential to sustaining life on the planet have been disrupted by different anthropogenic activities. This study’s objective is examine how vary with changes in land use and cover (LULC) across 29 years at Matenchose watershed. Landsat images for 1991 (TM), 2003 (ETM+), 2020 (OLI-8) were used categorization of LULC. To evaluate ecosystems service valuations (ESVs) as a result LULC combination ArcGIS, value transfer valuation approach was utilized. Farmlands, towns, bare exhibited growing trends among five major classes, but forest grassland showed declining trends. From 2020, ESVs decreased total US $157.24 million due modifications. In terms ESV functions, provisional (US $89.23 million) cultural $69.36 made up majority loss ESV. Overall, reduction environment degrading because existing changes, this calls immediate sustainable management intervention responsible actors. attain development goals regarding food land, it imperative reverse services.
